Frequently asked Questions:

What do I need to bring with us on our first day?

On your child’s first day it is important to bring your completed Registration Form and Consent Forms. Without these, your child may not be permitted to stay.

On your first day, and every session afterwards, you should also bring a water bottle (water only, no juice), the book-bag we have provided you with, and suitable outdoor clothing. That’s coat, hat and gloves in cold weather, wellies in wet weather, sun-hat and sun-cream in hot weather. All bookbags, drinks bottles and outdoor clothing (including sun-cream) should be clearly labelled with the child’s full name. Please don’t dress your child in their best clothes as we have ‘messy play’ as well as outdoor play. Pre-School t-shirts and sweatshirts are available from us at a cost of £9 each if you prefer.

What do I do on our first day?

At your agreed arrival time, please hang coat/bag on your child’s named peg and sign your child in on the sheet provided. You child will be directed to collect their name plate and stick it on the name board close by. Your child’s drinks bottle should be placed with all the others on the shelves under the kitchen hatch and our child’s book-bag placed with all the others in the relevant place (you will be assisted with all these, so please don’t worry!)

How long do parents or carers stay for?

We recognise that every child is different (and that parents often find the first few sessions very traumatic!) Some children respond better if you drop them, say goodbye and leave. Others need you stay for a little while. Our staff are very experienced at assessing a child’s needs and we would recommend that you allow yourself to be guided by them.

How do I pay?

If your child is under 3 years of age, you will receive a termly invoice soon after you start and at the beginning of each term thereafter. In the term after your child turns 3, you will receive funding from Hampshire County Council for 15 hours of care. You will receive a funding form at the start of each term which you will need to complete and our administrator takes care of all the submissions to HCC. If your child attends more than the 15 funded hours, you will receive an invoice for the balance. Invoices can be settled by cheque or by direct transfer into our bank.

What am I paying for?

The pre-school is a registered charity and therefore runs on a “not-for-profit-basis”. The fees we charge cover our staffing, premises and running costs and very little else. Our committee often run fund-raising events throughout the year. These events help pay for new equipment for the children and we therefore hope that you and your family will support these fun events whenever possible.

What can I put in packed-lunches?

We encourage balanced eating. Sandwiches, fruit, yoghurts, healthy snack foods etc.

Please no chocolate or products containing nuts.

What happens when we start potty training?

When you decide to start potty training, please let us know and we will ensure a consistent approach at Pre-School. We can provide sticker charts for your child and will inform you of their toileting progress whilst with us. Please bring in lots of spare (named) clothing and you are welcome to bring in a potty from home if you prefer (we do have a potty on site but some children prefer to use their own whilst they are learning).

What do I do if I have concerns?

In the first instance, speak with your key-carer. If this is not practicable or does not resolve the problem, you can speak to Sam Inglis (Manager) or our Chairperson. Our complaints procedure is stated in the prospectus and a copy is held on the noticeboard at the premises.
